The gates to the Bridge are now open and visitors are welcome to walk the Bridge.
But there is a caution: “We’re calling this our bare-bones opening, with just the trees and bushes in place," said committee co-chair Lynda Leitner. “If you are visiting, be prepared to see a lot of empty spaces in the gardens right now,” she explained. During the next several weeks, she advised visitors to be prepared to walk among gardeners hard at work with shovels and spades and buckets, busily planting hundreds of perennials as well as annuals. On the plus side, she said, “This is a unique opportunity to witness first-hand how the gardens are planned out and planted.” Some of the popular spring native plants like cobra lilies, lady slippers, Jack-in-the pulpits, and others, however, are in place and in bloom at the Shelburne entrance to the Bridge, where they greet early visitors.

We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved colleague Marion Taylor, who was devoted to the Bridge of Flowers. Marion served on the Bridge of Flowers Committee for many years, as Treasurer and as a representative on the Preservation Committee. One of the longest serving Committee members, she was widely regarded as a custodian of its archives. Her tireless energy also spearheaded fundraising efforts for the Bridge, including the popular cookie sale at Moonlight Magic, and she was a beloved fixture at the annual plant sale, pitching in as a cashier. "All who knew her," said Committee Chair Annette Szpila, "were inspired by her deep commitment to the community as well as to the Bridge of Flowers. She was always the first to volunteer and the last to shut out the lights, even in her advanced years. Marion Taylor is greatly missed and fondly remembered.”
