We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved colleague Marion Taylor, who was devoted to the Bridge of Flowers. Marion served on the Bridge of Flowers Committee for many years, as Treasurer and as a representative on the Preservation Committee.  One of the longest serving Committee members, she was widely regarded as a custodian of its archives. Her tireless energy also spearheaded fundraising efforts for the Bridge, including the popular cookie sale at Moonlight Magic, and she was a beloved fixture at the annual plant sale, pitching in as a cashier.  "All who knew her," said Committee Chair Annette Szpila, "were inspired by her deep commitment to the community as well as to the Bridge of Flowers.  She was always the first to volunteer and the last to shut out the lights, even in her advanced years. Marion Taylor is greatly missed and fondly remembered.”

Highlights from the Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony

It was a beautiful day and a fantastic turnout for the Bridge of Flowers' official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday, August 18, 2025 full of dignitaries and townsfolk out to celebrate the beloved bridge, which just underwent a $3 million repair. The bridge is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. while we await the delivery and installation of new lampposts.

Tighe & Bond engineer Zach Chornyak, a Greenfield native, speaks to the crowd while his colleague, engineer Andrea LaCasse, and Massachusetts' Executive Office of Economic Development Interim Secretary Ashley Stolba and State Rep. Natalie Blais (to his left in the photo) look on. To his right, Bridge of Flowers Committee Chair Annette Szpila, Shelburne Falls Fire District Chair Ron Dobosz, State Sen. Paul Mark, and Executive Office of Economic Development Assistant Secretary for Communities and Programs Juan Vega.

State officials who turned out for the official reopening of the bridge said this was the best ribbon-cutting they've attended.

Folks lined the Buckland side of the Bridge of Flowers and wrapped around on to the Iron Bridge for the ceremony.

The Bridge of Flowers Committee was able, now that all is safe, to open the bridge Friday, July 11, 2025, and it will be open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The gardens are still a work in progress and planting continues. Join us on Monday, Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. for an official reopening ribbon-cutting ceremony. Thank you for your patience with this important project.

We apologize for the change in date for when the Bridge will close temporarily for soil replacement. We’ve been informed of an unexpected delay in the process. Once the contractors furnish us with a new date for when they will begin the work, we will announce the closing on both the Bridge’s Facebook page and here on our website.

After the new soil is in place, the gates will remain closed for an additional week to enable the gardeners to replant large specimens, such as trees and bushes, that have been held off site. The gates will reopen to the public immediately after that, while gardeners and volunteers begin returning hundreds of perennials and myriad colorful annuals to the garden beds.

For gardening enthusiasts and plant lovers, this presents an opportunity for a unique, behind-the-scenes look at how the Bridge of Flowers springs to life after a long, cold winter.

Updates are ongoing; watch for announcements here and on Facebook.
